“A Prophetic Word” Day 4: Drink deeply from the Fountain of Restoration!
“Be appalled, O heavens, at this; be shocked, be utterly desolate, declares the Lord, for my people have committed two evils: they have forsaken me, the fountain of living waters, and hewed out cisterns for themselves, broken cisterns that can hold no water.”
Jeremiah 2:12-13 ESV
In our opening scripture, we see the Lord speaking (through the prophet Jeremiah), concerning a great error among His people: They had forsaken the Lord as their source, choosing rather to seek after their own ways of finding satisfaction. But, as is with all of our human efforts at finding satisfaction, separate, and apart from the Lord, there is no satisfaction to be found (ask the writer of Ecclesiastes).
Just as the human body ceases to function after prolonged periods without water, just so, the human spirit was dying, separated from the power of God. Praise God—through Jesus Christ—we now can be directly connected to that cleansing, restoring flow, by the Holy Spirit.
“On the last day of the feast, the great day, Jesus stood up and cried out, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, ‘Out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.’” Now this he said about the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were to receive, for as yet the Spirit had not been given, because Jesus was not yet glorified.”
John 7:37-39 ESV
However, among Christians, even among those who claim to be Holy Spirit filled, there’s often the tendency to fall back into a “default”of seeking their own ways to soul satisfaction, and it shows. So, sadly, there is great dissatisfaction, great hunger, and thirst, even in the body of Christ.
Do you feel thirsty and dry, even though you have given your life to the Lord? If you have not yet been filled with the Holy Spirit, ask the Lord to fill you, submitting all to Him, so that His Holy Spirit can flow through your being. If you have been filled with the Holy Spirit at one time or another, question whether or not you have stopped seeking from the Holy Spirit, what only He can give. Perhaps the drama of your life has caused the flow of the Holy Spirit to be pinched, restricted, so that you are no longer being completely filled.
Child of God, don’t allow the circumstances of your life, the distractions of living, continue to pinch or block the flow of God’s Spirit into your total being. He is our only lifeline in this weary and dry land!
We know that one day there will be complete restoration. But how good it is to know that now—through the indwelling of the Holy Spirit—we have been given a refuge, an oasis, even in this desert land. And this oasis, springs up from our innermost being! Open up to Him now! Allow the River to flow! He alone can satisfy!
