“If it had not been the Lord who was on our side, When men rose up against us, Then they would have swallowed us alive, When their wrath was kindled against us; Then the waters would have overwhelmed us, The stream would have gone over our soul; Then the swollen waters Would have gone over our soul. Blessed be the Lord, Who has not given us as prey to their teeth.”

‭‭Psalms‬ ‭124:2-6‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

A growing number of people in our society believe in what they call “equity.” Now, on the surface, that concept sounds good and fair. But, when you see how it is to be implemented, you come to understand that what they are wanting is to assure equal outcomes for everyone, no matter what the individual does or doesn’t do.

The goal should be equal opportunity; and yes, that should include remedial help for those who need it. But now it seems that the goal is to “even things up” by putting restrictions/restraints on some, while “giving” others freedom of expression and extra benefits. These people want to decide who is worthy and who is not worthy to have freedom of expression and access to opportunity. All this is done in the name of “equity.” But, actually, they want to pick the winners and losers. So, It isn’t even about assuring equal outcome; it’s about deciding who will be more likely to keep them in power and lavish benefits and opportunity on those people.

Now with the Lord, He doesn’t need anyone to help him stay in power; He is God all by Himself. People who align themselves with the will of God and the law of God, position themselves to receive favor. The Lord doesn’t “play favorites” as we may use the term. When people play favorites, they can’t help but allow their personal agenda to affect who does or doesn’t receive their favor; and so often, it’s all about their own benefit.

God has made very clear how we may align ourselves with His favor. And, the same opportunity is afforded all. He sent His Son as His Representative to be offered to anyone who would accept Him. And to anyone who accepts Him, He gives the power or authority to become His favored child:

“He came to His own, and His own did not receive Him. But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name:”

‭‭John‬ ‭1:11-12‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Throughout the story of the Bible, we see that it has always been those who seek the Lord who have His favor.

Through the New Covenant in Jesus Christ, we have been given a Person through Whom we receive God’s favor. He—by becoming the perfect sacrifice—has made it possible for us to be (through Him) in position to receive the favor of God!

In our portion from Psalms today we see David talking about the fact that the Lord being on his side, has made all the difference in his life. Without that favor, his enemies would have had their way with him!

Earlier in our “100 Days with David,” we discussed the fact that the secret of the Lord is with those who fear Him:

“The secret of the Lord is with those who fear Him, And He will show them His covenant.”

‭‭Psalms‬ ‭25:14‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

In other words, those who recognize Who God is, and because of that, have reverential fear for Him leading to obedience to His word, are positionally favored over those who reject the Lord. They are friends of God.

Now, people can clutch their pearls over the concept of God having favorites, but it will not change the fact that He gives favor to those who are His through Jesus Christ. Those who are of the world use favor as a tool for their selfish and Godless agenda.

For today let us know and understand what David knew:

God has favorites.
